Sara Freitas-Maltaverne will attend the
2008 Summer University for Financial Translation
in Brussels in July. Sara provides translation services in the fields
of management and finance, and will continue to develop her knowledge
of of these areas at the seminar.
May 23, 2008 - Francible member Sara Freitas-Maltaverne will participate in the 2008 Mediterranean Editors and Translators meeting to be held in September in Split, Croatia. Sara will run a three-hour workshop titled "Using storytelling techniques to create high-impact PowerPoint presentations".
Sara will also spend three intensive days networking with colleagues
from around the Med and improving her knowlege of English writing and
editing practices.
May 22, 2008 - Francible member Hélène Cheminal, who translates in the environmental field, will attend Forum 4i, an event devoted to intelligent energy and the environment.
May 22, 2008 - The
Biennale de l'habitat durable (Sustainable Housing Biennial) is underway in Grenoble.
Hélène Cheminal will participate in several of the activities planned during the event, which focuses on sustainable solutions in architecture and construction with a particular focus on the Alps (Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland).
May 10, 2008 - A new cross-disciplinary architecture and cultural heritage museum opened in September 2007 in Paris. La Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine offers permanent and temporary exhibits, including a gallery that retraces 150 years of contemporary and modern architectural history.
April 2, 2008 - Francible attended wood and sustainable housing trade fair Le Salon européen du bois et de l'habitat durable (from April 3-6 in Grenoble). Francible member Hélène Cheminal co-manned the booth run by Grenoble wood-products SME Evolition on Thursday, April 3.

The fair included more than 300 exhibitors in the fields of wood and passive buildings, eco-materials, renewable energy, and wood products in general. This year's theme was sustainable housing, with a special focus on bioclimatic architecture and passive houses, issues dear to Francible!
Francible member Agnès Levillayer is a wood-industry expert (furniture, wood panels, flooring, etc.) and has provided translation services for French wood-industry magazine Bois-Energie, while members Hélène Cheminal and Emmanuelle Daburger-Riffault both specialize in environmental technologies (micro-treatment stations, wastewater recycling, and housing) and recently contributed to the French translation of Constructing Architecture: Materials, Processes, Structures. A Handbook.

October 29, 2007 - The theme of International Translation Day 2007 - Don't shoot the messenger! - has been chosen by the International Federation of Translators. In France, the event will take place on November 23, 2007 under the moniker La journée mondiale de la traduction. See the program and register here...
December 2006 - "Using translators/interpreters" is a key factor in export performance for SMEs according to the ELAN [Effects on the European Economy of Shortages of Foreign Language Skills in Enterprise] survey.
The survey highlights an alarming amount of lost business due to poor language skills and puts forward a set of recommendations designed to help European businesses enhance their language skills and leverage multilingualism to improve cross-border business performance.
